Nizami’s Khusraw and Shirin, [17th-18th century]
One of the pictures depicts Shiruyah (Khusraw’s son by another marriage) killing his father in his sleep out of jealousy for his throne and Shirin's love. The other miniature depicts the episode in which Shirin’s horse falls to the ground during their visit to Bistun. Farhad picks the horse up and carries it on his back all the way back to Shirin’s palace, which is visible in the top left corner of the drawing.
